I didn’t take this photos-it is from this ebay listing (someone else’s, not mine).
Ok, the important thing to do now is to find out if anyone buys these books? A good way to find out is to sign up for an account with ebay and sign in. Then you look up the item you are interested in and when the page comes up, go to the sidebar of the ebay webpage and click on COMPLETED LISTINGS (under “Show Only” category). If the item has sold in the last 2 weeks, the price will show up in green. If no one bought the item and the listing expired, the price next to the listing will be red. As you can see from this completed listing page, a set like this has not sold in the last couple of weeks.
You may have noticed that the 3 sales that didn’t complete were all by the same seller (he used the same photo). I’m not sure why he did that.
Either way, no need to despair just yet. There may not be a high demand for this particular set but that doesn’t mean it will never sell. I’ll bet a lot of homeschoolers would like an old set like this. I’m guessing though that homeschool parents are too busy finishing up the school year to look for next years books just yet.
Also, perhaps the seller (and the one on Amazon-who knows, maybe it’s the same person!) has just listed this set too high.
So what I’ll do now is WATCH the set that is currently offered for sale on ebay. I’m still logged in so I will click on and go to the individual page here. Do you see the three big blue buttons? Well under those there is a smaller gray button that says, “Add to watch list”. Now I can check back later and see if the set sold at the current price of $84.99.
I can do this process over and over again until this set or one like it sells. OR I can just offer it for a very low price, say $30 and see what happens. I’ve paid absolutely nothing for the set so even if it NEVER sells, I’m out nothing but my time. In fact, I’ll just save them for my future grandchildren if they don’t sell! (I’m planning to have a grandchild or two within the next 5 years. I hope my children comply with my wishes!)
So keep your eyes open and don’t be afraid to make mistakes when trying something new. If you are on a tight budget, get free stuff or very, very cheap stuff to sell.
When I first started selling books, I got some KILLER deals on the free rack at a certain library. Two in particular that I got for free sold for $20 and $30. I just had to ship them. (don’t forget to charge enough to ship the item. The buyer usually pays for the shipping, unless you are planning to build the shipping cost into the cost of the item).
I hope this will be helpful to someone. If you have questions, please use the comment section below to ask them and I will answer as soon as possible.
